On Wednesday, four of us headed out with our friends Marilyn and Myles Willard, and our aunt Patty to look for snowy owls.
In spite of the nasty weather, we found three! All perched on top of electric poles. I had never seen one in person before so it was really special to see these beautiful birds up close!
We drove around the back roads for several hours looking for other species of birds and in all we spotted 27 species.
We saw some tundra swans in a field and out on the bay and some cute domestic ducks along side the road :)
Lydia spotted a baby muskrat in a ditch beside the road as well.
Picking a favorite is really difficult this week! I do like the snowy owls and the muskrat, but I also like the dilapidated buildings.

Great photos. Did not know that owls could be captured in photography like that - they must live there. Myles was my camp counselor when I was about 12 or so at Good News Camp near Gladwin. It is always good to see pictures of family - Lydia and Grandpa Orlin

Usually they don't come into this area, but a bunch of them are migrating through right now. I had never seen one in person before so it was pretty neat!
I told Myles that you remembered him and he was very surprised!

I'm jealous of your owl photos. I take bird photos all the time and have never captured an owl! Great pics!

...now that's a field trip I would love to go on...all the pictures are great-NOT ONE UGLY DUCKLING IN THE BUNCH...lol-but the little muskrat wins my heart- they are such busy body's - good find Lydia!
---. Aunt Patty would know this better- but there are legends about the snow owls- (I'll have to look through my kids books -I'm sure there's a story or two ) I see snow owls also like insulators like Aunt Dona-.One is perched upon a ceramic insulator- Thanks for sharing your adventure---
