Warm and Wet

It started raining last night, turning the driveway and road into one solid sheet of ice. Fun to slid on, but not to drive on. At least it's warming up some, though the temperature is supposed to drop again on Friday.
Holly's bucklings, Ellie Mae and her doeling left on Satureday. Holly was upset for awhile. She wasn't quite sure what was going on, but she's settling in. We had her penned seperatly with Hattie's babies so she would bond with them....that didn't last long! She figured out how to get out and took the babies with her! So we let her stay in the big pen but the babies had to be locked up again because we are having a problem with Shep, our male border collie, killing chickens, and biting the horses and cows. So until we figure out what to do, the little ones have to be locked up, just in case.
Our farrier came yesterday to trim the horses hooves. He was impressed with how well Chance looked. Chance had been having a problem with holding his weight. Since we see him all the time, we didn't notice that much of a difference, but D.J. said he looks worlds better. So we'll keep working on it.
This warm wheather is making all the horses spunky. Bannie nipped at Chance yesterday, so I slapped him. Usually he just looks at me and walks away...this time he turned around and barrel kicked at me, just missing my knee. I promptly got out my lunge line and whip and he worked a bit! I don't think he'll try that again for awhile.
Well, that's what's been going on here. We're getting ready to close another auction so that will keep us busy the rest of this week.
Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts!

Brrr!

Brrr! It's been really cold here in Michigan! Under 10 degrees the last few days.
We've been staying in the house most of the time.
Ellie Mae had her baby on Tuesday. A doeling, white like her papa with tan highlights. Very sweet. It was really cold that day and her ears got frostbit but there is still good circulation so they should be fine.
All three of Holly's bucks are sold, they'll be leaving on Satureday and we sold Ellie Mae with her little girl. Not sure when they'll be leaving yet.
We moved Hattie's babies down to the barn today, they were so excited to have so much room to run around in! They don't seem to mind the cold much.
I was going to ride Bannie today, but it was too cold to stay outside long so I let him have another lazy day.
Smoke cut her lip on something. Levi noticed it first and told me about it. I checked it when I went out about 2 o'clock to feed the babies. It's dry and already healing fine. That girl has  a bit of an attitude! She doesn't have great ground manners. Once it warms up a little, I'll round pen her. That should help. It worked wonders with Bannie. I think I'm starting to enjoy ground work more than riding! It sure is fun when you can control a horse with just a movement of your head or shoulders.
Well, it's almost supper time. Hope eveyone is keeping warm!

New Babies!

On Jan. 14th, my goat Hattie had triplets! A buck and two does. Hattie has to be put down because she has a diease that is passed through the white blood cells. My sister Lydia's goat, Lavey, had to be put down too, so we had been praying for two girls to replace the two we lost. We pulled the kids and are bottling them since the primary way the disease is passed on is through the milk. Lydia named her baby Minnah, which means blessing in Arabic and I named mine Hadiyyah, which means gift. These two girls really were a blessing and a gift. It's a miricle that they are alive. The buck was born first and the girls were stuck, both coming at the same time. At one point, both of their cords came. We thought they were going to die, but they made it and are doing fine.
Mom's goat, Holly, had triplet boys today. Two of them are a little weak so we bottled them to get them started. We gave them back to the mama and they are doing some better.
Holly's daughter from last year, Ellie Mae, is due anytime. She isn't getting very big so she probably only has a single.
Today we worked at the auction hall. Mom stayed with Holly and came later after the babies were born. We got all the lotting done so now we're ready to picture.
Well that's what's been happening here. Keep checking back! There's always something exciting going on!
