After the service, there was a pot luck meal for those who were going to the jail later on. You have to be 18 to do the jail ministry so I was eager to try it out. We couldn't convince Mom to go in(she's couldn't stand the thought of the ka-clink!)so she stayed in the truck with the kids while Dad, me and six others went in.
The men came in first. There were ten of them. They joined in the singing and two of them spoke up frequently during the message, offering questions and comments. One of the men was silent until we sang "Jesus Loves Me" He sat up straight and began singing along, his whole face lighting up.
As the men were leaving, one of the families handed out cookies. They were well received.
After the men left, the guard brought the women in. There were nine of them and they seemed to enjoy the singing and message as well. One lady asked us to pray for her children that they would be safe while she was away from them. She had been there for three weeks and would be there another nine months.
I really enjoyed going there and I hope I'll get a chance to do it again sometime.
