Jail Ministry

Today we went to the Pleasant Ridge Drunkard Brethren church in Ohio. We took the truck because we got several inches of snow yesterday and the roads were slushy. We got up at 5 am and made it just after they broke up into groups for Sunday school. The service was good and I especially enjoyed the singing.
After the service, there was a pot luck meal for those who were going to the jail later on. You have to be 18 to do the jail ministry so I was eager to try it out. We couldn't convince Mom to go in(she's couldn't stand the thought of the ka-clink!)so she stayed in the truck with the kids while Dad, me and six others went in.
The men came in first. There were ten of them. They joined in the singing and two of them spoke up frequently during the message, offering questions and comments. One of the men was silent until we sang "Jesus Loves Me" He sat up straight and began singing along, his whole face lighting up.
As the men were leaving, one of the families handed out cookies. They were well received.
After the men left, the guard brought the women in. There were nine of them and they seemed to enjoy the singing and message as well. One lady asked us to pray for her children that they would be safe while she was away from them. She had been there for three weeks and would be there another nine months.
I really enjoyed going there and I hope I'll get a chance to do it again sometime.

God bless you for your willingness to serve.😊 You will never know how The Lord used you to reach the heart of one (or many) in need of His love today.

I really enjoyed it and I hope hearts were touched. This church also goes to a nursing home once a month and I always enjoy that too. The people are always so grateful you took the time to come see them!

There are so many that need just a small moment of someone's time that is genuinely given. We always need to make time for those in need.

I think going to the jail last Sunday really made that real for me in a way it hadn't been before. I SAW the need. So many times...you hear about the need, just like you are hearing about it from me, but it is a whole different story when you see it for yourself. Its easy to be lighthearted about it...yeah, we sang for some people, but you know, it's only 20 people compared to the whole world....does it really matter? Sure does. I haven't been able to get the face of the man who sang Jesus Loves Me out of my head. He looked so forlorn, miserable, defiant. I just hope hearing that song touched a tender chord in his heart. Even if just one person came to a saving knowledge of Jesus, it was worth it.
