The weather is finally starting to actually feel like spring and it is nice to be able to walk outside without grabbing a jacket first. :) We are all enjoying the change of pace.
Last year, we moved a quarter mile down the road from the farmhouse we had lived in for seventeen years. The house we moved to was the house my great-grandparents built as their retirement home. All of us love the house and though it can be a bit inconvenient to walk a quarter mile to do animal chores, we like it here.
We are surrounded on three sides by a beautiful cedar swamp. It's quite a change to be living in the woods! At our old house, we had shade trees, but other than that we were surrounded by fields and buildings.
Dad has big plans for grooming the woods into a park like atmosphere. He and the boys got a start on that a few evenings ago, with Lydia's help, while Mom tried out her new grill on the deck(my personal favorite part of the house) and we enjoyed supper outside. I was behind the camera :)
I wanted to share a few pictures of the evening. I know it's not photo Friday, but I do have a favorite...I just love the first picture :) Levi hard at work burning brush and Seth perched in the tree trimming branches.

My favorite part of the new house! The patio table and chairs are a new addition.

Do you have a favorite part of spring? A special memory? A favorite spring activity?

Question: Does Seth wear a bill cap a lot? I notice it isn't all that sunny in your pictures, and neither your dad or Levi are wearing hats. Just curious! :)

And in answer to your question...I think my favorite part of spring is looking forward to fresh lettuce, watching new lambs, seeing the first few leaves on trees, and the plum and apple blossoms. Spring is my most favorite season of the year--but then, I am learning to like fall, too.

Yes, Seth wears a ball cap quite a bit. A lot of the farm boys in our area wear nearly all the time. Levi wears one quite often as well.

Fall is my favorite season :) but even though I enjoy the cold very much, I am always glad for barefoot weather!

Phew! At least my brother Seth isn't the only one! He's the only boy in our family that wears it (out of six brothers), but he wears it all the time--even when walking the three or so yards from the house to the garage and back!

I love seeing the flowers bloom and the sun come out again... around here it mostly rains all winter long so its good to see and feel the sun again. Also spring and fall are the only comfortable seasons here so we really enjoy them while we can :) Hmmm favorite spring activity... probably biking and hiking, and horse back riding. The weather is perfect to spend time outside (as long as I am armed with some allergy medicine ;)

It sounds like your winter is right up my alley! Except that it doesn't get all that cold (from the sounds of it). I love the rain.

A note on rain: We mostly get rain all winter to. In a lot of ways, it's nicer than snow (you don't slide around while driving), but in other ways it's not so nice--especially considering the amount of mud that's tracked into the house. Many years I've seen the fields where the cows are get so soft that they have to wade through foot-deep mud.

So yes, in some ways it's nice, but as always there are down sides to it as well. :)

I love the clean smell that comes with spring. And since we leave our windows open during spring, my room starts to smell so fresh. :)
I love the fire pic, by the way.
