Amazing Grace

John Newton

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

The verses to this song are beautiful...so sad and full of pain-but rich w/so much feeling and emotion...it's so heart wrenching what people had to endure......

This is one of my favorite songs. When I was a few years younger, I used to have the whole thing memorized...I could probably get through the first stanza without looking now. It is a beautiful song...and the story behind the man who wrote it is AMAZING! His testimony is almost unbelievable. It shows so clearly that no matter what our past sins, if we lay it at the feet of Jesus, and accept Him as our Lord and Savior, call upon His name and believe that He came and died on the cross so we could be saved "by grace, not by works lest any man should boast" "He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins." Salvation is a free gift. We must accept that gift in order to receive eternal life. This hymn is full of promise.
