Whisper
Rachel’s family raises purebred Quarter Horses, but, even though she is surrounded by beautiful horses, she still longs for a horse for her own. And, when her dad takes her to a local auction, she only has eyes for one horse – and one horse alone. A terrified mare tries to hide her fear beneath a hardened exterior, but Rachel knows better. Everything within her knows that they were meant for each other.
Once they get her home, the challenge is on.
Can Rachel convince a frightened, abused animal to trust again? Will the mare ever overcome her fear? And why is Ralph, a mysterious and dark-hearted stranger, so determined to steal the mare away?
Join Rachel and her family as they struggle to teach trust and love to the beautiful grey mare. Will they ever succeed? And will Rachel ever find the perfect name for her?

Whisper was inspired by a very special horse named Ashwin, Cherokee for horse.
In the spring of 2014 I was given a beautiful silver appaloosa gelding. His previous owner wasn't prepared to deal with his issues and he was also too small for her needs so she gave him to me for free.
I didn't know any of his history, but from his behavior, I could tell he had been abused at some point as while he showed no aggression toward people, he was very wary and wouldn't allow me to touch him. It took me a very long time to be able to touch him and longer still to get a halter on him. After four months, I attempted to ride him. By this time I was in love with the gentle, loving heart I had uncovered. Beneath the tough, frightened exterior, Ashwin had a heart of gold. Once on his back, I discovered that Ashwin was an absolute treasure. Steady, calm and dependable, even my little sister could ride him. In spite of being blind in one eye with limited vision in the other, Ashwin learned to trust me and placed his heart in my hands. Never before have I experienced anything quite like I did with Ashwin. I took a picture of him one day and later, looking into his sweet, gentle eye, I knew I had to write about him.
Thus Whisper was born. Though the horse in the story experiences issues far worse than Ashwin's, it is essentially his story. I have never felt such a connection with a story and I hope it will #1) open people's eyes to the fact that animals are not machines to be used and mishandled and #2) that just because an animal has been abused does not mean that it's productive days are over.
Ashwin is very special and has become a permanent part of my horse family.
